Littleton is a town with a real sense of history. The town itself got its beginnings during the Pike's Peak Gold Rush of 1859. Hundreds of people swarmed the area seeking the precious metal and a spot to call home while doing so. Naturally, they were accompanied by a variety of merchants, businessmen, and wives. With the influx of people, Denver began to grow at a rapid rate and there was a desperate need to supply water and irrigation to businesses and farms that were too secluded from a water source. One of the engineers hired to complete this task was Richard Sullivan Little.

Little staked a claim on an area south of Denver and settled there with his wife. In 1872, they subdivided much of their original claim into the village of Littleton. The town began to grow quickly as the railway brought new merchants and residents. By the year 1890, Littleton had become a bustling town of almost 300 people.
